Marginalised communities existed then as they do today. These communities found healing and hope in these songs. Casteism, xenophobia, discrimination, women empowerment were burning issues back then, as they are now. What emerged, was a sense of purpose in reduxing and reviving an ancient culture to connect with music audiences of today.
